It only takes one application of anti-foul not prepared properly, to make the hull of any boat start to flake in later years.
This can look untidy at best and at worse lessens the performance of the anti-foul and also gives a rough surface so that hull speed is decreased.
Removing anti-foul is possibly the worst job on the job lists of any yacht maintenance schedule. We use a blasting system that can effectively remove all paint back to the fabric of the boat, be it wood metal or fibreglass. Most importantly though, we don't take off any layer of gel coat or wood, once the surface has been blasted; it is effectively ready for application of any coating. We like to give the surface an abrasion in accordance with the coating guidelines, and to ensure that the best possible finish is achieved. At this stage the surface is absolutely ready for any application.
